MURALS, MURALS, AND MORE MURALS!

The hallways of JSEC serve as vibrant testaments to the experiences of the students who walk them. It began in 2017 under the guidance of art teacher Susan Garland and in partnership with local artist Christopher Johnson. They worked with students around the theme of social justice. In the following years Garland has also incorporated topics including liberation and healing. Many students began by using quotes and phrases, later transitioning to more abstract visuals. Now there are dozens, covering the walls from floor to ceiling in some places.
